Cemetery Overview

Biodiversity

The cemetery supports Carmarthenshire County Council's Local Biodiversity Action Plan and works closely with the County Council's Biodiversity Officer.

Biodiversity – Llanelli District Cemetery

The cemetery benefits from various species of mature trees and hedgerows scattered throughout the grounds and along its boundaries. As well as the woodland burial area several other small areas of the cemetery have recently been selected to create and encourage an environment to encourage biodiversity.

Trunks from trees that had to be felled are retained on site and laid down to encourage insect habitation and fungi growth which in turn will attract wildlife. The areas selected are managed to promote the growth of wild flowers and grasses which will attract and support a range of wildlife such as butterflies, insects, birds and small mammals. Pesticides are not used in these areas. Pesticide use is kept to an absolute minimum throughout the rest of the grounds.
